recalibrate: breathing practice

A simple breathing practice for you that is perfect for anytime you need to recalibrate or reset. Take a moment and pause.

Slowly and Smoothly Inhale a count of 3 through your nose,

Slowly and Smoothly Exhale a count of 5 or 6 out your mouth.

This will instantly activate the parasympathetic response of rest and digest, which is when our bodies move into a state of healing and repair, and our minds calm down enough to observe the present moment as it is and from a broader perspective. As our minds and bodies come into a state of rest, blood pressure decreases, heart rate decreases, and CO2 and O2 levels come to balance. We often neglect the exhalation and move through life taking faster, more frequent breaths than needed. Simply taking fewer breaths by slowing down the breath and extending the exhalation can do wonders for your overall health and well being.
